GoGo’s Sint Maarten

From city life to island life

While I was still involved in my Montreal businesses, a friend who had moved to Sint Maarten found a location and approached me about joining him to open a café, restaurant, and bar. I moved there and helped build the business that became GoGo’s.

I brought together the pizza and shawarma equipment left by previous restaurants at the location with Kafeïn’s paninis, coffee, and cocktail menu, creating a café-bar serving breakfast through dinner. Along the way, I created the now-famous shawarma pizza, which became an island favorite.

It was an opportunity to bring my café and restaurant experience into a Caribbean venture, in a very different setting from Montreal. I enjoyed the experience, but it also showed me how different the rhythm of an island could be from that of a metropolitan city. I was used to a faster pace of life and business.

I eventually sold my shares to my partner and stayed on the island for a few more months, enjoying Caribbean life before returning to Montreal, where my other businesses were still running.
